“Radiance" Community Big Band at The National Jazz Festival

The 18-member "Radiance" Community Big Band, sponsored by the historic Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts, performed at the National Jazz Festival on April 18th at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

We had a great time and our 20-minute set received rave reviews from those in attendance! The members of the Camden (NJ) High School Jazz Band and the members of the Deptford (NJ) High School Jazz Band who were in attendance were especially appreciative of our performance.

They were impressed by the level of professionalism our musicians brought to the stage. Our set, though short, showcased the versatility of the band.

We played some classic big band arrangements, including Count Basie and Tadd Dameron and we also played a couple of Latin Jazz tunes: "Contessa" and "Sofrito."

Finally, the two NJF staff members who critiqued our performance were very complimentary and noted that our band was an inspiration to the student musicians. Even though we have many veteran musicians, this "gig" will be remembered forever.
